Urgent Human Rights Report: Allegations of Intentional Killing in the ICU at Golestan Hospital in Ahwaz and Call for an Independent International Investigation

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) expresses grave concern over reports originating from the city of Ahwaz regarding the alleged intentional killing of a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Golestan Hospital via a lethal potassium injection to vacate a bed, which led to the arrest of two neurosurgery residents.
A.O.H.R highlights growing testimonies from victims' families pointing to recurring systemic negligence and discriminatory hospital management practices impacting indigenous Ahwazi Arab patients. The retention of officials at Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences and hospital administration in their posts further compromises transparent accountability.
Violated International Legal Standards:
* Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR):
* Article 3: Right to life, liberty, and security of person.
* Article 25: Right to medical care and health protection without discrimination.
* International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR):
* Article 6 (1): Inherent right to life and prohibition of arbitrary deprivation of life.
* International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR):
* Article 12: Right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
A.O.H.R calls upon the World Health Organization (WHO) and UN Special Rapporteurs on Extrajudicial Executions and the Right to Health to initiate an immediate, independent international investigation into this incident.
