Killing of an Arab Citizen by Security Forces in Alahwaz: A Flagrant Violation of International Humanitarian Law and the Right to Life

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) strongly condemns the extrajudicial killing of Hakim Wahidi (Bani Taraf), a resident of Al-Jarrahi (Chamran), who was shot directly by a law enforcement officer, Iman Sharifi, on September 16, 2026, and succumbed to his wounds at the hospital on September 17, 2026.
Reference to International Human Rights Law:
This crime constitutes a severe violation of fundamental international standards protecting human life:
* Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): Affirms that “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”
* Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR): Stipulates that “Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life.”
* UN Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials: Prohibits the use of lethal force except in cases of imminent threat to life or serious injury, strictly forbidding arbitrary or excessive measures.
This tragic event reflects the ongoing systematic targeting, harsh treatment, and severe impunity enjoyed by security forces operating against Arab citizens in Alahwaz. The A.O.H.R calls for an immediate, independent international investigation into this crime and demands accountability for the perpetrators.
