Over 2,000 Children in Abadan and Mohammareh Denied Education: Systematic Impoverishment and Ignorance Policies Deprive Alahwazi Children of Their Rights
The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) strongly condemns the denial of education to over 2,000 primary school children in the cities of Abadan and Mohammareh at the start of the new academic year, driven by their families’ absolute inability to afford basic school supplies.
Root Causes of the Policies:
This educational crisis is a direct consequence of deliberate and systematic policies enforced against the Arab population in Alahwaz:
* Systematic Impoverishment and Deliberate Ignorance: Depriving Arab citizens of employment opportunities and economically marginalizing them.
* Confiscation of Agricultural Lands: Armed appropriation of farming lands, cutting off families’ sole sources of livelihood.
* Crippling Economic Inflation: Skyrocketing prices of school supplies (stationery, bags, clothes) amid unprecedented inflation in Iran.
Disastrous Consequences:
* Thousands of children are deprived of their fundamental right to education, pushing them toward illiteracy and severe social vulnerability.
* Deepening economic and psychological distress for impoverished Alahwazi families unable to secure basic necessities.
* Reinforcing systematic discrimination, marginalization, and inequality across the Alahwaz region.
Previous reports indicated over 3,105 out-of-school children in Mohammareh alone, compounded by a severe shortage of classrooms (over 110 missing). The A.O.H.R calls upon international human rights bodies to intervene urgently to halt these discriminatory policies and safeguard children’s rights.
