Arbitrary Arrest and Enforced Disappearance of Two Sunni Activists in the Al-Malakiyah Neighborhood of Ahwaz

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R.) condemns in the strongest terms the arbitrary raids and searches conducted by the Iranian regime’s intelligence services at dawn on Monday, October 26, 2026. Targeting civilian homes in the Al-Malashiyah neighborhood of Ahwaz, the capital of Al-Ahwaz, these raids resulted in the arbitrary arrest of religious activists Abbas Al-Tamimi (21) and Hamid Al-Ghazlawi (25), who were taken to an unknown location without judicial warrants.
Reliable reports confirm that the arrests were accompanied by abusive searches, intimidation, and the confiscation of personal belongings, instilling fear among family members. This targeting stems solely from their exercise of the fundamental right to freedom of belief and expression as Sunni Muslims.
The continued detention of both young men, along with withholding their whereabouts and charges from their families, constitutes an enforced disappearance and a flagrant violation of international law.
Consequently, A.O.H.R. holds the Iranian authorities fully responsible for the safety of the detainees and demands their immediate, unconditional release. We call on international and human rights bodies to pressure Tehran to halt its policy of arbitrary arrests and systematic persecution against the Arab people of Al-Ahwaz.
