Extrajudicial Killing of Ahwazi Arabs by Iranian Security Forces: The Case of Ali Zogheibi and the Escalation of Field Executions

In the details of the primary extrajudicial killing incident, on the afternoon of Thursday, October 16, 2026, a vehicle carrying Ali Zogheibi and his companions was targeted in a sudden chase by security patrols in the Golestan (modern Iranian designation) district of the capital city of Ahwaz. Security forces opened cold-blooded, direct live fire at the vehicle, resulting in the extrajudicial killing of Ali Zogheibi after sustaining fatal wounds. Following the execution of the crime, security forces forcibly abducted the remaining wounded passengers to an undisclosed location, denying them urgent medical care and concealing their fate in a clear cover-up of the motives behind the chase and direct targeting.

An Extension of Systematic Extrajudicial Killings and Field Liquidations: The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) stresses that the extrajudicial killing of Ali Zogheibi falls within a programmed security scheme of extrajudicial killings and direct physical liquidations targeting Ahwazi citizens and activists, matching prior documented cases:

  • The Extrajudicial Killing of Activist Hashem Eidani: Killed after security forces besieged his home in Khebineh Olya village and targeted him with direct live fire as he attempted to escape, followed by authorities confiscating his body and banning his family from holding a funeral to cover up the crime.

  • The Extrajudicial Killing of Hakim Wahedi: Unlawfully killed in Jarahi city via direct gunfire carrying the intent of physical liquidation by a security agent (Iman Sharifi).

Legal Assessment:

The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) considers these extrajudicial killings a blatant and direct violation of international conventions, foremost among them Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) regarding the inherent right to life and the strict prohibition of extrajudicial executions and arbitrary killing, as well as UN principles on the use of force and firearms. A.O.H.R calls upon the United Nations to launch an urgent international investigation into these extrajudicial killings and hold perpetrators accountable.
