Security authorities continue to escalate arbitrary arrest campaigns against civilians in Ahwaz, in an approach that reflects a complete disregard for the most basic human rights rules. In this context, on September 18, 2026, security elements raided the family home of 17-year-old minor youth Abbas Shawardi, who lives in the city of Falahiyeh.
A security force raided the home brutally and terrorized its occupants, then arrested the child Abbas and took him to an unknown destination, without providing the youth’s family with any legal explanation or official arrest warrant. Until the moment of publishing this news, the security authorities refuse to disclose the true reasons for the arrest or even the place where the minor is being held, leaving his family in a state of extreme anxiety regarding his fate.
These arbitrary practices are not limited to being a violation of local laws, but rather represent a flagrant breach of Article 37 of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which clearly prohibits depriving any child of their liberty arbitrarily or unlawfully, considers detention an exceptional measure to be used for the shortest possible time, and protects them from torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.
Accordingly, The Alahwazi Organization for Human Rights (A.O.H.R) holds the Iranian authorities fully responsible for the safety and health of the minor Abbas Shawardi, and demands the immediate disclosure of his place of detention and his release without delay.
